There’s something extra special about a wedding that happens right at home. Jessica and Dale’s South Jersey backyard wedding was intimate, laid-back, and filled with so many little personal details that made the entire day feel completely like them.

From cowboy boots and blue florals to a ceremony tucked into the backyard surrounded by trees, their day was the perfect reminder that you don’t need a huge venue to have a beautiful wedding. Sometimes the sweetest wedding days are the ones that feel the most personal.

Getting Ready at Home

The day started slow and easy with everyone getting ready at home. I spent the beginning of the day photographing all of those little details before everything officially began — the rings, Jessica’s boots and bouquet, and all the tiny pieces they chose to make the day their own.

And of course, some of my favorite moments are always the ones happening in between. Everyone helping each other get ready, fixing the last little details, and that mix of excitement and nerves right before it finally hits you: we’re getting married today. It was so sweet watching Jessica & Dale get their kids ready for the special day.

An Intimate Backyard Ceremony

Their ceremony took place right in the backyard, with hay bales lining the aisle and a simple wooden arbor surrounded by greenery. It felt intimate and relaxed in the best possible way — just their favorite people gathered together to watch them make it official.

Backyard weddings have such a different energy than a traditional venue wedding. There’s something really sweet about celebrating somewhere familiar, especially when the whole space has been transformed for the day.

Just Married! <3

After the ceremony, we snuck away for portraits while everyone settled into cocktail hour. I always love giving my couples a little time to themselves after the ceremony — partly because we get beautiful portraits, but mostly because it’s one of the first chances they get to actually be together and realize, holy shit, we’re married.

We kept their portraits relaxed and natural, wandering around the property and letting them actually enjoy each other instead of turning the whole thing into one long photoshoot.

The Little Details

The rest of the evening was exactly what a backyard wedding should be — good food, drinks, lots of laughing, and everyone celebrating together without anything feeling overly formal.

Jessica and Dale’s day was proof that a wedding doesn’t have to be huge or extravagant to feel incredibly special. Give me a backyard, your favorite people, a few personal details, and two people ridiculously excited to marry each other and I am HAPPY.
